Waterbury Memorial Stadium

Stamford, CT

THE DETAILS

JJA Sports, LLC provided athletic facility planning and design services, as part of the Friar Associates team, for the Waterbury Memorial Stadium synthetic turf project. The project represented much needed update to this overused facility. The projects primary program included a rectangular multi-use synthetic turf field designed to serve high school football and soccer with contiguous little league and softball fields overlapping the end zones.

The project site had several challenges that required resolution within its limited budget. The site was bordered by a brook and associated wetlands to the North and had major utilities passing through beneath the field. Both the home and visitor’s side seating were not ADA accessible and were positioned to complicate the design. The final challenge was the presence of buried waste and general garbage requiring DEP clean up and disposal.
